Police in Tzaneen in the Limpopo Province found the body of an eight-year-old girl who went missing on Monday.
The body of Mabareki Molamudi was found in the bushes of her village in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Police Spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo says Mabareki was left with a caregiver on Monday when she suddenly disappeared.
According to eyewitnesses, she was last seen walking with a man to a shop.
He says the Tzaneen Tracking Team started searching for the suspect and got a lead at about 10 pm on Wednesday.
The suspect was said to be in Achornhoek in Mpumalanga where he was consulting a traditional healer.
Police drove to the area and the suspect was arrested at 1.30 am on Thursday.
Brigadier Mojapelo says they suspect that the Grade 1 learner was also raped before she was killed.
He says a post mortem will be done to establish all the facts.
The 34-year-old suspect will appear in the Ritavi Magistrate court on Friday where he will be charged with rape, murder and kidnapping.
