Miss South Africa Tamaryn Green came close to being crowned Miss Universe after finishing in the top three but ending runner-up, losing out on the title to Miss Philippines, Catriona Gray.
The Miss Universe pageant was held on Sunday evening in Bangkok, Thailand.
The 24-year-old Green, from Paarl in the Western Cape, represented South Africa against contestants from 93 other countries.
She made the top three where she was up against Miss Philippines and Miss Venezuela.
Gray is the fourth woman from the Philippines to be named Miss Universe.
Former Miss Universe, South African Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters was on hand to crown her successor.
The ceremony also featured the first transgender woman, Spain’s Angela Ponce to compete in the miss universe pageant.
