Millions of rands worth of ivory returned to South Africa

A consignment of ivory products and rhino horn with an estimated value of 23 million rand on the black market has been returned to South
Africa.

Hawks spokesperson, Colonel Johan Jooste, says a consignment of rhino horn was seized in Hong Kong in 2011.

He says it took more than a year to bring back the seized items.

A total of 33 rhino horns, 758 ivory chopsticks and 127 ivory bracelets arrived back at OR Tambo International airport earlier on Wednesday.

Jooste said the Hawks looked forward to the next stage of the investigation, which would be forensic evaluation of the rhino horns.
