Unexpected developments in two high profile court cases

The Chanelle Henning murder trial took a new turn on Wednesday when one of the killers offered to help with investigations into
who else was involved in the crime.

Prosecutor Gerrie Nel disclosed this to the High Court in Pretoria as sentencing proceedings were about to get underway.

He asked the court to remove one of the convicted, Andre Gouws, to the Villieria police station so that he could consult his attorney.

The matter was postponed to the 5th of December .

The court had been scheduled to start hearing sentencing proceedings this morning after finding Gouws and former Nigerian Olympic athlete Ambrose Monye guilty of the contract murder of Henning.

26 year-old Henning was shot dead in Faerie Glen in November 2011, shortly after dropping her child off at a creche.

Former policeman Gerhardus du Plessis and Willem Pieterse are already serving 18-year prison terms after confessing to their roles in the murder.

Meanwhile the Griekwastad triple murder trial was unexpectedly postponed to next month in the Northern Cape High Court on Wednesday morning.

Judge President Frans Kgomo was due to hear closing arguments today, but the advocates from both the state and defence reached an agreement in chambers to have the case postponed to the 9th of December.

A 17-year old boy is accused of murdering Deon Steenkamp, his wife Christel, and their daughter, Marthella, on their farm Naauwhoek in April last year.
