A 30-year-old man who was caught on camera looting a store in Durban during the recent unrest has changed his plea from guilty to not guilty.

Mbuso Moloi was seen putting his loot in a Mercedez Benz, fitted with a false number plate and is charged with contravening the National Road Traffic Regulations of 2000 as well as public violence, theft and trespassing.

During his previous court appearance, where he was granted bail of R5 000, he indicated on the record that he would plead guilty to all the charges against him.

NPA spokesperson Natasha Kara says, however, that when Moloi appeared in court on Thursday he indicated that he would no longer be pleading guilty.

She says the matter was postponed to the 12th of October for further investigation.

Moloi remains out on bail of R5000 but was ordered to surrender his passport.

He is also not allowed to leave Kwazulu Natal without consent from the Investigating Officer and must report to the Pinetown police station every Wednesday and Saturday.

The looting incident for which Moloi was arrested took place on the 12th of July at a Woolworths store in the Glenwood area.
