Police are investigating the death of a 50-year-old official from the Department of Correctional Services in Johannesburg.
The female official worked at a Medium A Covid isolation site at the Leeuwkop Correctional Centre.
The Department’s spokesperson, Singabakho Nxumalo says her body was discovered on the floor on Tuesday evening and her jacket was covered in blood.
He says the official worked for the Department of Correctional Services for 23 years.
Nxumalo says the Department is in the process of establishing the facts and circumstances that led to her death and a case has been opened with SAPS.
He says those who undermine the security of their centres will be brought to book.
The victim's name was not released.
