Medics tried to save the life of a calf hit by a minibus taxi on a road inland of Durban on Tuesday, but the animal died shortly after arriving at a veterinary clinic.
Paramedics arrived at the scene of the accident, outside Hillcrest, found the taxi passengers uninjured and turned their attention to the calf.
"It appeared to be in a lot of pain," ER24 spokesman Derrick Banks said.
"The paramedics carefully picked the calf up and placed it on to a stretcher, then rushed it off to the Waterfall veterinary clinic.
"Unfortunately, the calf had suffered very critical injuries and passed away at the clinic." (Sapa)
