A 35-year-old man is in police custody following his arrest for being in possession of abalone with an estimated value of R9 million.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo says the man was arrested after a crime intelligence team pulled over his truck on the N1, north in the Westenburg policing area.
He says when officers searched the truck they discovered 76 boxes packed with abalone.
Police also confiscated his truck.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Polokwane Magistrates Court soon and the investigation continues.
