Limpopo police launched a “massive manhunt” for a suspect who allegedly raped a 16-year-old learner who was on her way to school in the Hlanganani policing precinct on Thursday.
Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba said the incident occurred while the teenager was walking alone on a secluded road from Ribungwani village near Polokwane.
He said the suspect, who was wearing a black bulletproof vest and armed with a firearm, dragged her to the bushes, and raped her at gunpoint.
“He then took her cell phone, offered her money, and warned her not to disclose the incident to anyone,” Mashaba said.
Limpopo police commissioner, Lieutenant-General Thembi Hadebe has condemned the attack.
"Our investigation team is working tirelessly to ensure the suspect is identified and arrested. The community's assistance is crucial in making this happen,” said Hadebe.
