KwaZulu Natal police have launched a manhunt for the gunmen who shot dead five people in shooting incidents in Tongaat on Thursday afternoon.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Robert Netshiunda, said in the first incident, assailants fired shots at a vehicle on the R-102.
He said the driver and passenger died on the scene, while another person was rushed to a hospital with gunshot wounds.
Netshiunda said a few minutes later, the same with the gunmen was seen at the second shooting at an intersection where three people were killed and two injured.
"Reports indicate that the suspects, who were using high-calibre weapons, fired shots at security guards who were reportedly escorting a taxi owner. Three guards were fatally wounded," he said.
Colonel Netshiunda said the taxi owner was driving in a vehicle behind the security guards' vehicle managed to drive off, but he said the gunmen followed him and continued shooting, injuring another security guard."
The hunt for the suspects is continuing.
