Police in Mpumalanga are searching for three suspects who escaped from the police holding cells in Volksrust on Sunday.
Spokesperson Brigadier Leonard Hlathi says a total of seven suspects escaped but four were soon re-arrested.
He says the suspects were in custody for various offences including robbery, rape, possession of drugs, housebreaking and theft as well as Contravention of the immigration Act.
Brigadier Hlathi says an investigation into the circumstances around the escape is currently underway.
The men will now face an additional charge of escaping from lawful custody.
The remaining suspects are the 27-year-old Mduduzi Khumalo; 19-year-old Paul Sambo and 30-year-old Bongani Sithole.
