Police have been instructed to hunt down the gunmen who shot and killed two SAPS members in separate incidents in Kwazulu Natal this week.
The order came from National Police Commissioner, General Khehla Sitole.
This followed Thursday night’s shooting of a 55-year-old policeman in New Germany in Pinetown who was gunned down while walking home from a local store.
“The Captain was found with all his personal belongings on him including his cell phone, wallet and service pistol, therefore, ruling out robbery as a motive for his killing,” said SAPS spokesperson, Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo.
He said in the second incident this week, a police Constable died in hospital from a gunshot wound he sustained when he and another member stopped a suspicious-looking vehicle in Berea, Durban.
Naidoo said that General Sitole had instructed that the 72-hour activation plan be instituted to track down the perpetrators.
