A man from Mbombela who allegedly set his girlfriend alight during an argument in December has been arrested for attempted murder.
The 35 -year-old man was on the run for nearly seven months and was finally arrested at his hideout in Bushbuckridge on Tuesday.
A few days before Christmas last year the suspect and his girlfriend who was 19-years-old at the time had a heated argument.
Police Spokesperson Brigadier Leonard Hhlati says when the victim was asleep the suspect poured paraffin over her and set her alight, before locking her into the room they were renting.
He says the victim begged him to open the door, which he eventually did but he ran away.
The victim was rushed to the hospital and survived the incident.
The suspect is expected to appear in court soon on a charge of attempted murder.
