A Johannesburg man who killed a policeman in 2009 while out on parole will be sentenced in the South Gauteng High Court today.
Mervin West gunned down the policeman during a raid on a house in Eldorado Park seven months after he was granted parole.
He was jailed in 1997 for 30 years for six murders, two attempted murders and being in posession of an ilegal fire-arm and ammunition.
National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson, Mtunzi Mhaga, says West's parole in the first place was an indictment of the system.
He says they'll recommend a sentence that ensures that West is never granted parole again as he is clearly a menace to society.
