A 37-year-old security guard has been arrested by Kimberley police for allegedly shooting a man after an argument over a face mask.
Police said the incident happened on Friday when the guard refused to let the man into a shop at a filling station in Kuruman because he was not wearing a face mask.
A spokesperson said that an argument ensued between the men before the 36-year-old man was shot in the face.
He was rushed to a hospital for treatment.
The security guard has been arrested and the firearm used has been confiscated for further investigation.
He is due to appear in court on Monday on a charge of attempted murder.
Northern Cape police commissioner, Lieutenant-General Risimati Shivuri has condemned the incident and called for people to exercise patience while also calling for cooperation in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
