Police in Mpumalanga have launched a manhunt for six suspects who chopped off both hands of an innocent victim.
Spokesperson Colonel Donald Mdhluli said the 30-year-old man narrowly escaped death and is still in hospital following last week's attack.
He said on Wednesday the victim was walking on a road near Witbank when he was approached by suspects driving a green Opel Corsa Bakkie.
Mdhluli says the man was held at gunpoint and forced into the vehicle before his hands and feet were bound.
According to the victim they drove with him into the bushes and threw him out of the bakkie, threatening to kill him.
Colonel Mdhluli said it was during this time, both the victim's hands were chopped off.
He said as if that was not enough, they took both his hands and fled the scene.
The victim bled profusely and suffered excruciating pain, however, security officers came to his aid.
Police have opened up a case of attempted murder and are in pursuit of the suspects.
The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has vowed to bring those responsible to book.
Police also seized the opportunity to remind the public about unscrupulous individuals whose actions can only be described as evil.
