One person was killed, and a teenager injured after a gas tank exploded at a scrap yard in Phoenix in Kwazulu Natal on Monday afternoon.
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received multiple calls from the scrap metal dealer reporting an explosion on his premises.
Upon arrival at the scene, it was established that the two employees were busy cutting an empty diesel tank with gas torches when it exploded.
RUSA says the 36-year-old victim sustained poly-traumatic injuries after he was struck by a large piece of the cylinder.
He was declared dead on the scene.
RUSA says his 19-year-old co-worker sustained second-degree burns on his arms, legs and face.
The name of the victim is not yet known and police are investigating the matter.
