The husband of Amazimtoti reverend, Liezel de Jager, made his first appearance in court more than two years after she was strangled to death at her home.
Werner de Jager, 42, was arrested in Bloemfontein last week after the SAPS Cold Case Unit took over the docket.
The accused made a brief appearance in court where he indicated his intention to apply for bail.
The murder of de Jager, who was the reverend at the NG Kerk Suidkus, made national headlines with rumours soon swirling of her husband's alleged involvement.
A mere two weeks after the murder Werner de Jager was reported missing by his father-in-law and he was eventually found inside his vehicle, parked in a sugar plantation near Illovo.
The accused, who appeared to be disoriented was rushed to a local hospital.
Earlier this year the civil rights group Action Society said police had not yet completed digital forensic investigations.
The matter was postponed to 7 December and the State will be opposing bail.
