One person has died after being shot during ongoing protests by Wits University students in Braamfontein.
It's understood the man happened to be passing by as officers were trying to disperse the protesters, who are unhappy about financial exclusion at the University.
Netcare 911's Shawn Herbst says paramedics found the man lying unresponsive on a pavement.
He showed no signs of life and was declared dead on the scene.
The identity of the victim is not yet known.
The SRC from Wits University took to Twitter on Wednesday accusing police of killing and arresting unarmed students.
They said they would not back down until their demands are met.
