Man fined for having sex with a chicken

 Statement from NSPCA.....

Sfiso Sambo, has been fined R500 by Magistrate Mhlanga of the Louw's Creek Court in Barberton after he admitted having sex with a chicken. Sambo, a security guard in the area, now has a criminal record.

The accused admitted guilt to an act of horrendous barbarity and cruelty when he appeared in Court on 14 May 2014.

The case goes back to November 2013 when Trainee Inspector Eddie Gininda of the Barberton SPCA was called upon by the local SAPS for legal advice. Bestiality had taken place when a sexual act was performed on a hen. This violation of the bird had been so savagely inflicted that her intestines had become dislodged: - yet she was still alive when the SPCA arrived on the scene.

Trainee Inspector Gininda transported the chicken to a Veterinarian. Her injuries were so severe that she was euthanised to prevent further suffering.

The Veterinarian provided a report which outlined the physical injuries and the unspeakable suffering the hen must have endured. Charges were laid in terms of the Animals Protection Act, 1962 and the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences and Related Offences) Amendment Act, 2007.

The seriousness of this issue is emphasised: - bestiality is a criminal offence in South Africa. It is indescribably cruel and injurious to the animal and is a serious indicator of deviant sexual behaviour.

The National Council of SPCAs and the Barberton SPCA thank all involved for the roles played to enable the matter to come before the Court. An appeal is made to all caring and compassionate people to enable us to bring to justice anyone who abuses an animal in this way. Do not be afraid to come forward with details.

There is a proven link between cruelty to animals and abuse of vulnerable humans. Do not let perpetrators get away with deviant sexual behaviour - for the sake of our communities who can be placed at risk.
