Man expected in court for murder that shocked the town of Beaufort West

A man from Beaufort West is expected to appear in the town's Magistrates Court on Monday where he will be charged with the murder of a local woman which sent shock waves through the Central Karoo town.

The 30-year-old Anthea Topps' half-naked body was discovered at her home on the 21st of July.

A multidisciplinary investigation was launched by Saps who traced the victim's cellphone,  which led them straight to the suspect.

Spokesperson Captain Malcolm Pojie says once the suspect spotted police he gave chase but was eventually cornered in an outside toilet.

Initial reports showed that Topps was strangled to death.

The possibility that she was raped is also being investigated.

The Cluster Commander for Beaufort West Brigadier Johan Du Toit praised his team who worked tirelessly to bring the suspect to book.
