Man dies days before his murder trial

A Johannesburg man who allegedly strangled his quadriplegic son and his wife in May 2011, has died -- just days before his court case was due to start.

Ben Engelbrecht (52)  drove head-on into a truck near Vereeniging on Wednesday.

Police spokesperson, Sergeant Teboho Lephoto, said that the truck driver reported seeing a silver grey BMW approaching his vehicle at high speed and in the wrong lane.

The truck driver tried to swerve to avoid the accident, but the BMW crashed into the front of the vehicle.

Engelbrecht who was out on bail was charged with murdering his wife 49-year-old Ina, and his 21-year-old son Kobus, in their Johannesburg home last May.
