A 42-year-old man is expected to appear in the Strand Magistrates court on Monday following his arrest for the possession of a hand grenade.
Spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk says police in Macassar received a tip-off on Friday regarding illegal firearms and possible hand grenades being stored at premises in a nearby village.
He says the K9 explosive unit and Bomb disposal Unit were called to the scene.
Van Wyk says upon their arrival they found two flares and an old rusty hand grenade, which was unstable and could not be transported.
The grenade was immediately disposed of.
Police were commended for effectively following up on information thus preventing harm or loss of life.
The man will be charged for the illegal possession of explosives.
