Police have reminded the public that vehicles displaying a blue light, have absolute right of way.
National police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe says when it is safe to do so, a motorist is urged to give right of way, according to the National Road Traffic Act.
This follows an incident on Sunday where a 57-year-old man was arrested for reckless and negligent driving after he allegedly tried to interfere with a motorcade convoy.
Brigadier Mathe says the convoy was escorting a foreign VIP dignitary to the Lanseria Airport when the motorist allegedly ignored warnings from Traffic officials and SAPS members escorting the VIP.
She says the motorist was allegedly warned several times, but when he tried to enter the convoy a third time, he was arrested.
She says the man will appear in the Krugersdorp Magistrates Court on Monday.
Blue Lights
Members of the Public are reminded that blue lights may only be fitted on vehicles operated by SAPS, Municipal Police, Traffic Officers, and SANDF.
Civilians using blue lights will be found guilty of a crime.
