Retired footballer, Thandani Ntshumayelo, aka “Bibo”, appeared in court on Monday on a charge of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
The former Orlando Pirates and Swallows player made a brief appearance in the Randburg magistrate’s court for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend on 2 February.
“The complaint is in a relationship with the accused and alleges that she was with him and his friends at his place when a fight between the accused and one of his friends ensued.
“She then tried to intervene in an attempt to calm down the accused,” said NPA regional spokesperson, Phindi Mjonondwane.
Ntshumayelo then allegedly became aggressive towards her, by slapping her across the face, grabbing her by her head, and hitting it against the wall.
“She further alleges that he then pushed her to the ground,” Mjonondwane said.
He was released on R1000 bail and will be back in court on 4 April.
