A 47-year-old man from Kathu in the Northern Cape has drowned at Bloubergstrand while another man and his three dogs are missing.
Spokesperson for the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) Craig Lambinon says the deceased and the 23-year-old Pierre Lotter and his three dachshunds went fishing on Kids Rock on Tuesday and were last seen and heard from at around 6.30 pm.
He says when responders arrived on the scene they found the lifeless body of the 47-year-old man in the vicinity of the Blue Peter Hotel.
Lambinon says after CPR efforts were exhausted he was declared dead on the scene.
He says an extensive air, sea and shoreline search showed no signs of the missing dogs or Lotter.
It is suspected that they had reached the rock at low tide and tried swimming across the channel when the high tide came in.
