Former ANC Youth League leader Julius Malema and former league spokesperson, Floyd Shivambu, have retracted and apologised for their derogatory comments about DA leader and Western Cape premier, Helen Zille.
This was confirmed in an order today by the Western Cape High Court.
Zille had filed a defamation suit against the erstwhile Youth League leaders over statement they made about nearly two years ago in which they called her a fake racist girl and apartheid agent.
Commenting on Thursday's court orders, Zille said they were a victory for constitutional democracy and the norms that the law sets out in terms of defamation.
"I'm pleased that I can put this matter behind me know in a way that has seen justice done. Julius Malema, Floyd Shivambu and the ANC Youth League have withdrawn their defamatory statement against me and apologised unreservedly," she said.
"I hope that in future we can focus on the politics of issues and not on the politics of insults," she said.
