A 52-year-old male nurse, Azwidohwi Ndou, appeared in the Malamulele Magistrate's Court on Tuesday for killing seven family members at Jimmy Jones Village in the Malamulele area on Christmas Day.
The National Prosecuting Authority said Ndou allegedly went on the killing spree on Saturday morning as the family members were fighting over a stand that belongs to their father.
Four children, one-year-old Wanga Ndou, four-year-old Ronewa Ndou, and eight-year-old Dakalo Ndou, and 12-year-old Rendani Ndou, were among those killed.
NPA spokesperson, Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi, said the other victims were 33-year-old Mpho Ndou, Ndivhuwo Ndou, also 33, and Portia Mabasa, aged 37.
She said Ndou was taken into custody after handing himself over at the Thohoyandou Police Station in Limpopo where he was charged with seven counts of murder.
The case was postponed to 5 January 2022 for further investigations and for the accused to obtain legal representation.
