The Independent Police Investigative Directorate IPID is investigating a case of culpable homicide as a result of police action.
This follows an incident on the N1 near the Mantsole weigh bridge on Tuesday night in which an on-duty police Sergeant was driving from Pretoria to Phalaphala farm where he was deployed.
IPID spokesperson Grace Langa says the officer struck something in the road with his double cab bakkie and decided to turn back after inspecting his vehicle and finding that it was damaged.
The officer found several body parts of an unknown man scattered on the side of the road and reported the matter to the relevant authorities.
The deceased 's identity is not yet known and investigations into the incident are continuing.
