Looming strike at Impala averted

A looming strike at the Impala platinum mine in Rustenburg has been averted after workers accepted a pay agreement on Thursday.

An AMCU spokesman said they would not be going on strike as the mine had agreed to adjust their pay with effect from the first of October.

He said workers would be given letters today indicating how their salary had been adjusted.

No worker will earn less than R6 000 p/m.

Meanwhile: employers and labour union leaders say talks to resolve a strike by truck drivers will resume at eight o'clock on Friday morning.
About 20 000 workers in the road freight transport sector have been on strike over wages since Monday.

Sporadic violence has left at least seven people injured since the strike began.
