Three people have been taken in for questioning after a lion cub was found in Athlone in the Western Cape.
Spokesperson Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana says detectives followed up on information about a lion club that was being transported from Thabazimbi to the Western Cape.
She says police followed up on information and searched several addresses in the Athlone area.
A case of possession of endangered species was registered by the stock theft unit.
The Lion cub, worth about R50 000, was taken to a place of safety.
The men who were questioned are between the ages of 28 and 30.
No arrests have been made.
