Police in the Northern Cape have welcomed the life sentence and an additional hefty 441-year prison term handed down to serial rapist, Ndumiso Giyani in the Northern Cape High Court on Friday.
The accused terrorised the communities of Kimberley, Galeshewe and Kagisho from 2014 until 2018 and was eventually arrested in January 2019.
Giyani was convicted in November last year on 14 counts of rape, 12 counts of robbery with aggravated circumstances, two counts of attempted robbery with aggravated circumstances and six counts of kidnapping.
In his sentencing judgment, Judge Mathebe Phatshoane, reiterated that Giyane had to be removed from society.
He sentenced him to three life terms for rape and a total of 441 years for a string of other charges that included robbery with aggravating circumstances, and five years each for kidnapping.
