Free State police are investigating the gruesome murder of a Lesotho national who was attacked by a mob and set alight in Ficksburg.
Police spokesperson, Brigadier Motantsi Makhele, said police were summoned to the scene at an open space of land between Zones 8 and 11 in Ficksburg on Saturday where the man’s charred body was found.
He said a witness, also a Lesotho national, told police that they were on their to the shop when they met a group of about 10 males carrying wooden sticks.
Mahkele said that the group attacked them and the witnesses managed to escape but his countryman was unable to escape the mob.
He said the witness reported seeing the deceased doused with petrol and set alight.
"The suspects are not known and no arrests have been made,” Makhele said.
A case of murder is being investigated.
