A group of Candidate attorneys has threatened to take legal action against the Law Society of South Africa following a debacle around the leakage of the paper for the Attorney's Admission Exam.
This comes after the Law Society announced it had decided that the Attorney's Admission Exams would be rewritten to protect the integrity and reputation of the profession.
Although the Society acknowledged that many candidate attorneys did not take part, in what it said was unethical and unprofessional conduct, the group has labelled this as unfair to those who have complied with the regulations.
In a widely-circulated statement, the group of candidate attorneys also condemned their colleagues who had benefitted from the leak without reporting the matter to the Law Society.
They said if the Society fails to give them a positive response, they will contemplate obtaining an interdict to stop the exams.
The Law Society said the source of the leak forms part of an ongoing investigation.
It added that appropriate action would be taken against any Candidate attorney who was complicit in the leak.
