Three learners from a Johannesburg school have been arrested after police were attacked while conducting searches at an Eldorado Park school.
Police said one learner from Freedom Park Secondary school was arrested for being in the possession of dagga while a second was found in the possession of a knife.
All three however also face charges of public violence after police were stoned during a visit to the school on Thursday.
“The Eldorado Police accompanied by their Youth Desk members arrived at the Freedom Park Secondary School as per their arrangement with the school’s principal the previous day, to search for drugs and dangerous weapons,” said police spokesperson, Colonel Brenda Muridili.
She said while police were conducting the searches some learners started throwing stones at the police and members of youth desk injuring two police members.
Colonel Muridili said it is further alleged that “shots fired from the direction of the learners” but no one was injured.
National Police Commissioner, General Kehla Sitole, has condemned the incident.
