A lawyer who allegedly attempted to smuggle drugs and a cellphone to a detainee in a Polokwane police station appeared in court this week on a charge of drug possession.
The 31-year-old Piet Motshitshi Kekana was arrested on a Tuesday at the Mahwelereng Police Station outside Mokopane.
Kekana, a legal representative from a local firm, arrived at the station to consult one of the inmates who was due to appear in court.
Police became suspicious of the bag he was carrying and when they conducted a search, a cellphone, dagga and sachets of nyaope were found in his possession, packaged in a plastic bag.
He was released on warning and his case was postponed to the 27th of November for further investigation.
