EFF meets Clicks and Unilever over racist ad

EFF Twitter

EFF leader, Julius Malema, and party leaders held meetings with representatives from both Clicks and Unilever in the wake of countrywide protests sparked by a racist ad.

In a statement on its Twitter feed, the EFF said that the director responsible for the ad had resigned and left the country but Unilever had agreed that disciplinary action would be taken against those remaining in the company.

It also agreed to withdraw all TRESemme' products from stores for ten days and make a donation of sanitary towels and sanitisers to informal settlements identified by the EFF.

Clicks on the other hand agreed to withdraw the TRESemme’ products from its shelves and replace them with locally sourced products.

According to the EFF statement, Clicks would also donate sanitary towels and sanitisers to designated informal settlements, and offering scholarships to five students to pursue pharmaceutical studies next year.

The EFF in turn committed to working with law enforcement agencies to identify those behind the vandalising of stores so that they could be brought to book.

The party said in line with the agreements with the two parties the matter in question “is put to rest.”
