The Democratic Alliance says it will go to Parliament regarding the way in which the fuel price in South Africa is determined.
DA MP, Lance Greyling, says the massive petrol price increase of 93c per litre, which came into effect at midnight on Tuesday, could have been prevented if the DA's recommendations regarding the petrol price determination formula were approved.
Diesel increased by more than 60 cents a litre.
Greyling says taxes and levies included in the fuel price, as well as the way in which the fuel price is determined, should be discussed in Parliament.
"There is what is called an equalisation fund, there is a fuel levy which is used to fund the maintenance and building of new roads there is also the road accident fund levy which we think is mired in controversy and we need to re-look at that whole accident levy as well" Greyling said.
