Defence Minister, Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula says 50 firearms have been stolen from or lost by the Defence Force in the past three years.
In a written reply to a parliamentary question, the Defence Minister acknowledged that the missing weapons included a grenade launcher.
Freedom Front Plus MP, Pieter Groenewald, said it was concerning that 38 of the 50 missing firearms are automatic assault rifles such as R-5, R-4 and R-1 firearms.
