The Labour Court will rule on Thursday on whether banking union, Sasbo can go ahead with its planned strike which will result in a complete shutdown of systems, including ATM's.
This, after Business Unity South Africa (Busa) filed an urgent court application to interdict the strike.
The matter was heard in Braamfontein, Johannesburg on Wednesday.
Threats of strike action emanate from discontent over downsizing at the country's four big banks, Nedbank, Standard Bank, FNB and ABSA.
These banks also closed some of their branches and merged others to align banking services.
Earlier, Unions said they were expecting about 50,000 people to join the strike, which could be its biggest strike since 1920.
Sasbo also warned people to withdraw sufficient funds before Friday, as money would not be available at banks and ATMs.
