The Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit in KwaZulu-Natal says it secured 35 terms of life imprisonment as well as 621 years against those convicted of sexual-related offences during the month of August.
Spokesperson, Brigadier Jay Naicker says detectives were faced with cases where the ages of the accused ranged between six and 36, while the victims were aged between seven and 58.
He says the highlight of their investigations was the conviction of serial rapist, 27-year old Moses Mavila, who was handed 32 life terms for terrorising women in the Westville area.
Naicker says during September, police arrested 242 persons for sexual offence cases.
The accused were convicted for crimes such as rape; sexual assault; robbery; assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm and attempted rape.
