A 38-year-old man has been arrested near Vryheid in Kwa Zulu Natal on two counts of murder and rape.
Police say the arrest followed after the body of 34-year old Zilandile Xulu, who was seven months pregnant, was found on a cliff last week.
She disappeared on 27 June, and her disappearance was not reported to the police.
The deceased was allegedly strangled to death, stabbed and raped.
The police investigation revealed that she was killed in her bedroom, dragged out and thrown down a cliff.
Her neck was broken and she sustained stab wounds to the stomach.
The suspect was arrested in a dense mountainous forest on Friday night and will appear in the Vryheid Magistrate's Court soon.
The KZN Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Khombinkosi Jula welcomed the arrest and commended the team that worked around the clock ensure that the case was solved.
