Relief organisation, Gift of the Givers, expects an update on former Bloemfontein teacher, Pierre Korkie, within the next few days.
Korkie was captured by Al-Qaede rebels in Yemen in May last year.
His wife, Yolande, was freed in January.
However, the kidnappers are demanding a more than R32 million ransom for Pierre's release.
Gift of the Givers director, Imtiaz Sooliman, says he's been in contact with Anas Al-Hamati, who helped negotiate Yolande's release, and is positive that the rebels will make contact with them within the next few days.
He said earlier that they're concerned about Pierre's health.
