Former Bok captain Joost van der Westhuizen has lost his court bid to prevent the publication of Gavin Prins’ book about Van der Westhuizen and his estranged wife, Amor Vittone.
Judge Eberhard Bertelsmann said in his judgment on Friday Van der Westhuizen had failed to prove that the publication of the book was unlawful.
The book, Joost & Amor, of which 10 000 copies have been printed, can now be distributed to retail outlets.
Bertelsmann said Van der Westhuizen wanted to prevent publication of the book to protect his privacy, yet Joost and Amor had shined a spotlight on their private and intimate lives over the course of 10 years.
Van der Westhuizen also shares his battle with motor neuron disease in public.
He and Amor are in the category of celebrities who cannot expect their private lives to remain private because they had placed their private lives in the public domain.
