Johannesburg mayor killed in car accident

Johannesburg Mayor, 46-year old Jolidee Matongo, has died in a car accident.

The accident happened on Saturday evening after he spent the day alongside ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa in Soweto campaigning for the party ahead of the November 1 municipal elections.

Matongo took over the running of the city in August from Geoff Makhubo, who passed away from Covid-19 complications in early July.

Prior to his election as mayor, he served as a member of the mayoral committee for finance.
