The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) says they are unable to access crime scenes and deceased bodies due to the unrest and criminal activities taking place in Gauteng and KwaZulu Natal.
IPID spokesperson Grace Langa says a person died at Shoprite in Inanda, KZN and police were unable to reach the scene due to burning tyres and vehicles being attacked.
She says in another incident a person died due to loss of blood because an ambulance could not access the area.
IPID also found a hand grenade at a First National Bank (FNB) ATM in Inanda and needed to access the area together with the bomb unit of the SAPS.
