Implats to start recruiting

The recruitment of new workers at Impala Platinum mine in Rustenburg will start next week.

The company fired 17,200 workers this week for participating in a three day illegal strike over salaries.

Implats spokesperson, Bob Gilmour says the process of recruiting new staff, or rehiring employees who want to reapply for their positions, will start next week.

The National Union of Mineworkers says Implats had increased miners' salaries by 18 percent, but had excluded rockdrill operators and other categories, and this had triggered the illegal strike.
