An illegal hunter has been mauled to death by a lion at a private game farm near Kruger National Park in Limpopo.
Police said on Friday that Matome Mahlale, 24, was part of the group that went hunting unlawfully with dogs at a game farm in Mashishimale.
Mahlale was known to have been part of the group of five man, who used dogs, to hunt at the local game farms, police said.
On Thursday, the group and their dogs were chased by a lion. Mahlale was caught and fatally mauled.
“Three men managed to climb into a tree and another managed to escape, but the deceased and two dogs were mauled,” said Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Ronel Otto.
