IFP Councillor gunned down in KZN Midlands

An Inkatha Freedom Party councillor was shot and killed in Estcourt in KwaZulu-Natal on Friday evening.

The IFP has confirmed the incident on Twitter.

The party said it was in consultation with the South African Police Service, witnesses, and the family to establish the facts and circumstances of the killing.

A full statement is expected to be released later on Sunday.

The victim was arrested last year for allegedly being part of a plot to murder a political rival.
