The husband of a Free State Magistrate has been arrested at a Lesotho guesthouse with the body of his wife in his vehicle.
Police launched a search for the Regional Court Magistrate, Mamello Thamae from Heilbron and her husband Lehlohonolo Maketoane, who were reported missing.
In an earlier statement police said she had returned home on Thursday from work but it was reported that a vehicle left the house in the early hours of Friday morning.
At the time police had a strong suspicion that the silver Kia Sportage had crossed the border into Lesotho.
In a statement on Saturday, police spokesperson, Captain Loraine Earle said the vehicle was traced to a guest house in Mokgotlong in Lesotho.
“Mounted police questioned the husband who showed them the lifeless body of the wife which was in the boot of the vehicle,” she said.
Earle said he is now awaiting to be returned to South Africa where he could face charges of murder and kidnapping.
